The Rabid Wolverines Of Ann Arbor Michigan

In the heart of Ann Arbor Michigan is a university with a reputation to be rabid. The University of Michigan is home to the Wolverines. Ann Arbors own the Wolverines are the only NCAA school to win at least one championship in one of the four major sports (football, baseball, hockey and basket ball). The school holds 32 NCAA Division 1 titles, not to mention the many titles captured in some of the lesser known departments and individual sports. It is a school rich in history that keeps Ann Arbor constantly rocking.

The house or houses that inhabit Ann Arbor s most famous marsupials are quite infamous as well as the school s yellow and navy blue colors. The House that Cazzie Built (known for one time star Cazzie Russel) has witnessed some great moments including coach Steve fisher s seemingly improbable championship run in 1989. The Frozen Four , hockey championships ended many times in glory on the ice of Yost Ice Arena, most recently in 1998, when the Wolverines took home the title, one of their nine in total. The ball has gone deep off the bat in Ray Fisher Stadium and into the streets of Ann Arbor, as the baseball team celebrated victories, including their 1953 championship. The last was won under the winningest coach in their history and for whom the house is named after. The pride of Ann Arbor has to be their football team, which possesses 11 national titles and plays in Michigan Stadium in the always competitive Big 10 conference.

Every student and Wolverine athlete walks around the campus, streets of Ann Arbor or hits the field with the Victors running through their head on game day. The Victors is the schools fight song, which was actually created by a student in 1898. Some known athletes and coaches that may have strutted to The Victor are, NBA superstar Chris Webber, Heisman award winner Desmond Howard, MLB pitcher Jim Abbott, Hall Of Fame Coach Bo Schembechler, NBA coach Rudy Tomjanovich and the red hot 2008 U.S. Olympian gold winner, Michael Phelps. Great athletes, great coaches and even better Wolverines have walked the campus in Ann Arbor.

The Wolverines can really show their teeth at times, especially when facing one of their fierce rivals on the football field, in which they have many. Their interstate rival is the Michigan St. Spartans, unlike the wolverines hailing from Ann Arbor; the Spartans reside in East Lancing Michigan. They also share a great dislike for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. There may be no greater college rivalry than the blue and yellow form Ann Arbor and the white and red of Ohio. When the Wolverines and the Ohio St. Buckeyes meet nobody is safe, not even Brutus Buckeye, Ohio States mascot.

Ann Arbors own are steep in history and their alumni are strong and faithful as seen by the number of fans at their games. Fans from both their past and present show up to all their games and keep the Wolverines rabid with their support and spirit.
