Atlanta Falcons Tickets NFL Good Fit For Rookie Ryan

Sometimes teams lose their leader and quarterback because of an unfortunate injury (case in point Tom Brady), others when they retire, but the Atlanta Falcons star was taken because of dog fighting. The Michael Vick case was both shocking and devastating to the Falcons who were left without the star player after he was convicted. The Falcons responded by taking a quarterback in the first round of the last NFL draft. They went with Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan, who was a Heisman trophy candidate. Many analysts were already dismissing the Falcons as contenders because being led by a rookie is rarely a good sign. Ryan has stepped up to both keep the Falcons in contention and prove the analysts wrong.

Ryan has worked long and hard to get his chance in the NFL. After redshirting as a freshman, he was 35 of 71 for 250 yards during the 2004 season. The next year, he was 121 of 195 for 1,514 yards and eight touchdowns while only starting five games. He almost doubled his total yards in 2006 with 2,942 yards and 15 touchdowns off of 263 completions. He also scored four rushing touchdowns that season. He was gaining recognition for his efforts, getting named to the first team of the All ACC . He blew away his previous seasons in 2007, going 388 of 654 for 4,507 yards and 31 touchdowns. He was favored going into the draft, which is probably why he was chosen third overall by the Falcons.

As of week nine, Ryan is showing his star potential. He started out week one with a 34 21 win over the Detroit Lions. He was 9 of 13 for one touchdown, no interceptions and 161 yards as well as a passer rating of 137.0. If he had one game this season where he seemed like a true rookie, it was the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during week two. The Falcons lost 24 9, and Ryan was 13 of 33 for 158 yards, no touchdowns, two interceptions and a passer rating of 29.6. A came like that could be tough to bounce back from, but Ryan did it in style by taking a 38 14 win over Kansas City. He was 12 of 16 for 192 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions, giving him a passer rating of 120.6.

He tallied one loss and two wins before the Falcons week seven bye week, finishing with a rating of 116.1 against the Chicago Bears. During week nines game against the Oakland Raiders, Ryan had a career high 220 yards. He was 16 of 22 and averaged 10 yards a throw for two touchdowns, no interceptions and a passer rating of 138.4. In the ending weeks of the season, Ryan will be up against some of the top quarterbacks in the league like San Diegos Philip Rivers, New Orleans Drew Brees and Denvers Jay Cutler, which will inevitably be a learning experience for the up and coming rookie.
